This set of six French soldiers were produced by Louis Marx & Co. Ltd. in the UK Swansea factory and were copyrighted 1964. This set is reasonably rare and sought after in the UK. In contrast with all the other Marx six-inch soldiers sets, the French soldiers are from WW1 rather than WW2. The simple reason for this is that the French army only fought for a short time at the beginning of the war before they surrendered and therefore there are few images of them in traditional French uniforms from the war.
The French plastic figures were produced in light grey and although their detail is very good, it is let down by the depiction of the weapons they carry. The first figure appears to be holding a 1949 MAT-49 sub-machine gun while the rest appear to be holding a stylized rifle or carbine. Only the soldier carrying his weapon slung over his shoulder appears to be carrying a reasonably well modelled M1886 Lebel rifle.
